About Us

Oslo Puja

Nostalgia, thy name is 'Durga Puja' ... for all of us, who has built a new home away from 'home'!

It's that time of the year ... when a quaint and wistful, often inexplicable desire grips all of us. The resounding beats of drums, the indispensable ‘Dhaak’, a familiar whiff of coconut fiber smoke! The all-pervasive aura of ‘Dhunuchi’ and the falling dusk miles and miles away… deep in our hearts, we yearn to go back in time to arrest those moments of euphoria back “Home”. The rush of memories often become achy and the longing to go ‘Home’ overwhelming!

In the year 2009, a handful of Bengalis in Oslo endeavoured to conceive ‘a Home away from Home’. To create the splendour of Durga Puja in this far-away land in Scandinavia, they dared to dream big- they decided to take the stride and start a modest celebration of Durga Puja in Oslo. Their positive enthusiasm was indulged by a few more enthusiasts who couldn’t help but respond to the fervent longing for festivity, especially around this time of the year.

Over the years, we have grown in numbers, we have upped the ante in celebration too: we have diverse cultural programmes and activities all through the three days of Durga Puja. And, this year too, our enthusiasm to celebrate Durga Puja knows no limits! Our fervour and excitement is galore! The journey continues, the preparations are on and we are eagerly looking forward to each one of your participation to glorify our celebration. And, hence, not just the Bengalis, but, we extend our heartiest welcome to everybody who wishes to be a part of this unique experience. We welcome each one of you! Come and take home memories that you will cherish forever!

Our Testimonials

Appreciations from our dear friends

We are an Indian family from UP and West Bengal in India and have been living in Trondheim for the past 10 years. We always wanted to showcase the richness of Indian culture and celebration that we get to experience in West Bengal and other parts on India to our child. In our search for some authentic cultural experience in Norway we discovered about Durga Puja group from Oslo who have a very dedicated group of members that not only celebrate Durga Puja but also arrange lovely cultural shows with dance, songs and theater. We found new friends in them as we joined on two different occasions. The colors, the smell, the adda (chit-chat), the cheerful people and the lively atmosphere with the constant flow of tea and snacks and delicious food kept us fully engaged through-out the event together with the auspicious celebration of the Pujo. We had to leave earlier on Sunday for our long drive back home. But by then we had collected loads of fond memories and friendship! It has been always very nostalgic to be part of their events.

Since 2009, we have been celebrating the utsav of Durga Pujo in Oslo. The endeavor to work on this huge celebration by a handful of highly motivated, sincere and bold persons is deeply appreciated by every one of us - who want to pay our homage to Ma Durga. Initially, the resources were limited in every way, but the immense joy with which the Pujo-committee worked in organising the details was very touching. Ma Durga Herself has blessed the faith and indefatigable commitment - so much so - year 2023 will be the 15th year of Ma Durga Pujo!!!!! For this we are eternally grateful to everyone who contribute towards - Decorations, endeavour to have good Purohit, generous snacks with cold drinks, tea and coffee, excellent Bhog etc. Very interesting variety program including the best of Bengali culture. To sum up, we are very happy that in the committee of Oslo Durga Pujo we have members who encourage a good standard of celebration. Wish you all the best !!!

I live to enjoy my life by the lilltest things. Born in Nagpur, came to Norway , staying in Vestlandet & celebrating every year Durga Puja in Oslo. OSLO DURGA PUJA COMMITTEE made it possible for us. The melodious sound of Dhak, chanting mantras/ pushpanjali, Bhog Prasad, variety entertainment & meeting friends etc etc. Since 2009 every Durgapuja has become more enjoyable & colouful than ever. I hope this year Durga puja will bring immense succes & happines. Let us celebrate & keep the spirit of Durga puja alive with OSLO DURGA PUJA in FURUSET. JAI MAA DURGA.

Attending the Durga Puja function for the past four years has been an amazing experience. The service is exceptional, the food is delicious, and the overall arrangements are outstanding. The organizers' attention to detail, from the beautifully decorated pandal to the cultural programs, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's a time of celebration, great food, and making wonderful memories with friends.

Durga puja is one of the significant and most joyous festival of India. It is an occasion for people to come together and join for the peace and prosperity for all. I am very happy to support the Oslo Durga puja celebration and to appreciate that how much it has developed in last 14 years. But it is a very hard work for the puja committee to ensure that it is celebrated with a great success. I have enjoyed attending Oslo Durga puja since it started and look forward to joining again and again the celebration in coming years.
